river rock & beach pebbles
Did you know that River Rocks are actually Beach Pebbles that have been landlocked? The Earth used to look a lot different. In fact, most of the State of Georgia was once covered by sea water. When the ancient seas receded, beach pebbles became trapped in what are now our rivers and lakes and became "River Rocks."
Some of Man's very first tools were made from Pebbles dating back to the Palaeolithic period
The "crawlerway" at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida is topped with Alabama River Rock. That is because the hardness scale of Alabama River Rock (8 mohs) can withstand the pressure of a crawler, moon rocket and launcher rolling over it. That's over 17 Million Pounds!!
River Rocks/Beach Pebbles can be formed from sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic rocks depending on where they're found in the world
